Body Wrappers 36th Anniversary

New York

FactoryMarie West, founder and President launched the company January 17, 1981 and shortly thereafter partnered up with financial backer Nicholas Karant. In 1983 Michael Rubin, the current CEO and one time partner joined with them and together they built Body Wrappers into one of the most successful dance apparel companies in the world with over 320 employees.

For the past 33 years Body Wrappers has been located in Elizabeth, New Jersey at the 1860's historic landmark building that once housed the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Body Wrappers utilizes about 135,000 square feet of the building on five floors. Approximately 50,000 square feet of space is used to warehouse finished inventory. The fifth floor serves as storage for a variety of raw materials, assorted shipping supplies and an extra large photo studio. Located on the fourth floor is a massive automated cutting room and piecegoods inventory. The third and second floors occupy a vast continuous "in-stock" selection of finished merchandise ready to ship to retailers around the world at all times. Shipping and finishing operations are on the first two floors with the main floor the location of the showroom, sewing, pattern making, design, production planning, business offices and customer service.

In 2008, an additional factory was acquired in the Dominican Republic to manufacture the Angelo Luzio shoe collection and many of the Body Wrappers basic and fashion dancewear.

Body Wrappers photography studio, showroom, marketing and graphic art offices are located in New York City on 36th Street, off of Sixth Avenue, across from the famous Macy’s flagship store.

Always interested in partnering with its retail customers, Body Wrappers/Angelo/Luzio was the first dancewear manufacturer to offer an outstanding Business-2-Business website giving retailers a direct connection to the company with real-time inventory 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as well as many other resources.
